Enrichment at Ranelagh School

Purpose

At Ranelagh School, enrichment is the purposeful range of experiences and opportunities that exist beyond the taught curriculum and alongside it.  Enrichment helps to enable every student to discover and develop their God-given gifts, deepen their sense of belonging within the Ranelagh community, and flourish academically, spiritually, socially and personally.

We are committed to ensuring that all students, irrespective of their background, circumstances or academic starting points, can access a rich and diverse range of opportunities that build cultural capital, broaden horizons and raise aspirations. Through encounters with people, places, ideas and experiences beyond their everyday lives, students gain the knowledge and confidence to enable them to thrive in modern Britain and contribute positively to society.

Through enrichment activities, students are encouraged to explore their interests, try new activities, develop skills, build positive relationships and experience joy, challenge and achievement. Enrichment supports personal development, strengthens readiness for future transitions and enables our young people to make informed choices about their education, careers and wider lives.  Perhaps most importantly, enrichment activities can shine a light on the contributions of every member of our school community, recognising and valuing their diverse gifts while nurturing a deep sense of belonging at Ranelagh.

Our enrichment programme reflects our commitment to spiritual development by providing opportunities for students to look in through self-discovery and reflection, reach out through service, leadership and community engagement, and look up through encounters with beauty, wonder, faith and purpose.

Delivery

Rooted in our Christian vision, our enrichment programme is a significant expression of our commitment to educating the whole person. It includes both co-curricular opportunities that extend and deepen curriculum learning and extra-curricular experiences that broaden students’ knowledge, skills and interests beyond academic study and qualifications.  Enrichment opportunities include clubs, trips and visits as well as non-qualification activities that take place during lesson time; for example, careers encounters, drop-down days, PSHE personal development lessons and access to a wide range of sports and arts activities. In addition, students are encouraged to engage with the school and wider community through leadership roles and opportunities to serve.  Our enrichment offer is based on the five domains articulated in the Enrichment Framework [June 2026].  Following the publication of this framework, we are in the process of developing The Ranelagh Quest for students in Key Stage 3, which will enable us to further recognise and celebrate students’ achievements outside of the classroom.

Equity of access

Enrichment at Ranelagh is an entitlement for all. We seek to remove barriers to participation and ensure that every student can engage meaningfully in opportunities that complement their engagement in the taught curriculum, enrich their lives and empower them to flourish as valued members of one body.
